I think it's hard being a grandfather; it's rather a complex paradox to comprehend. You don't really have total control over your children because they're all grown up and possess lives of their own, plus you can't really cuddle up too much onto your grandchildren because they aren't yours and you probably only see them every now and then anyways.
But I guess it also brings forth with it many contradicting attributes as well. For starters, there relies no need for you to get stuff for yourself anymore; provided your grown-up children bestow some sorta gift every now and then. There's also no need for that extra mental baggage of worrying over your kids screwing their lives or others. And, you get all the attention everytime the festivities come by.
Then again, I can't help but ponder how much the cons outweigh the pros when it comes to becoming a grandfather. So, what joy does being a grandfather give?
For my Aki, it's as simple as being in the thoughts of his children and grandchildren.
Although we don't see eye to eye on certain things, but we find solace in the fact that we couldn't ask for a better forefather. Happy 78th Birthday Aki, we love you for who you are.
Or course, things are not what they used to be but we make amends with the past by making the best of the present. I have learned through wisdom of experience - to appreciate three things in life; your time, your life, and your family.
